Tutorial: How To Partition Your SD Card Without Losing Your Data

Android users, there are many apps that will help you have more storage for apps in other words you can move your apps to sd card and these two are the most common apps to do it a2sd and link2sd (awesome apps for android version below 2.2).

For rooted and custom rom if you’re using link2sd you will have frequently “partition not mounted”, mount error, quick reboot etc it’s because the rom not loading the partition on init.d script.

This tutorial also covering how to partition sd card for swap memory (android device).

Requirements:

• Download Minitool partition wizard home edition (freeware – full version)
• Windows OS computer
• Card reader (optional).

Note:  on minitool partition wizard nothing will happen before you click apply so don’t worry messing up as long as you’re not click the “apply” button.

So here’s how to partition your sd card (fat, fat32, ext2, ext3, ext4, android swap, linux swap, etc) It’s best to use card reader but mine working by plug the usb cable from phone (android).

• Insert your sd card to card reader (plug your phone to computer and choose usb storage – copy data – or any other message – you’ve got the point because it’s different on most phone).
• Open minitool partition wizard and choose your sd card (don’t format your computer system – usually drive C:!) – sd card is easy to spot you just have to know the sd card size (2 Gb, 4 Gb, 8 Gb, etc and the file system usually fat or fat 32).
• Left click the sd card drive and choose move/resize.
• Drag how much unallocated space you want (this unallocated space will be your second and third partition). The blue with yellow edge is the limit. Click ok when done.
  
• You will see one more drive without letter with the size as you specified before.
• Left click and choose CREATE partition. Important note: select button Create as : Primary and choose file system and drag the size just like before. If you just want to create 2 partitions just use it all (don’t drag the size).
• Repeat the step and choose linux swap if you want to swap partition your sd card (for android users).
• Remember select Create as : primary for every partition (android device).
